Who we are

Dawn Magazine publishes articles across a range of topics. We are the data controller for the personal information described on this page. You can reach us at dawnmagazine.co.uk@gmail.com.

Information we collect

You can read everything on this site without giving us any personal information. We do not require an account and we do not ask you to sign in.

The only information you actively give us is your email address, and only if you choose to subscribe to our newsletter. We use it to send you the newsletter you asked for, and nothing else.

Newsletter subscriptions

We do not currently use a newsletter provider. The signup form opens a pre-filled message in your own email app, addressed to us. Nothing leaves your device until you choose to send it, and no third party receives your address. When you do send it, your email arrives in our ordinary inbox and we use it only to send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time by emailing us, and we will delete your address.

Our lawful basis, and how long we keep your address

Under UK data protection law we need a lawful basis for using your personal information. For the newsletter that basis is your consent, given when you submit the signup form, and you can withdraw it at any time. We keep your email address only for as long as you stay subscribed. Once you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you, we delete it.

Hosting and server logs

This site is served as static files by our hosting provider. Like most hosts, they automatically record standard technical request data such as IP address, browser type, referring page and time of request, in order to serve the site and protect it from abuse. We do not use those logs to build profiles of individual readers.

Cookies and browser storage

We do not set any cookies, and we do not use advertising, tracking or analytics services. The one thing this site saves is your light or dark theme choice, kept in your browser’s local storage so the page does not change appearance on every visit. That is a setting you asked for by using the theme switch, it stays on your device, and it is never sent to us or to anyone else. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

Content and links from other sites

Articles on this site link to other websites, and some articles display images hosted elsewhere. When your browser loads an external image or you follow an outbound link, that other website receives a request from your browser and applies its own privacy policy. We have no control over how those sites handle your information, and we encourage you to read their policies.

Your rights

If you are in the UK, the UK GDPR gives you the right to ask what personal information we hold about you and to receive a copy, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw your consent at any time. Since the only personal information we hold is a newsletter email address, most requests are settled by unsubscribing, but you are welcome to contact us at dawnmagazine.co.uk@gmail.com and we will respond within one month. We do not charge for this.

Complaints

If you think we have handled your information badly, please tell us first and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us their email address, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. When we do, we will revise the date shown at the top of this page.
